Falling into the World of Video Game LEGO MOCs

I’d definitely call myself a bit of a video game nerd.

You’ve got different sub-categories of nerd out there… and honestly, I probably tick quite a few of those boxes. But until pretty recently, LEGO wasn’t really one of them.

To get myself into the LEGO world, I did what any video game addict might do, I picked out a few MOCs that linked back to my interests. And video games? Yeah, that was absolutely top of the list.

Starting with Pokémon (Because, Obviously)

I kicked things off with Pokémon and some other “figurine style” MOCs I could find on the site. Pokémon just felt like the perfect crossover between gaming and collecting.

Quick note: any game or anime MOC designers, please reach out, I want to empty my wallet on your stuff, lmao.

So, today I want to take you through a few MOCs I’ve come across that caught my attention. I’m not sure if this counts as a review exactly… but let’s be honest, it’s pretty much a review.

Dst212’s Eeveelution Line – A Personal Favourite

We’re starting with one of my absolute favourites (and someone I actually chat with pretty frequently) - dst212. This man is an Italian legend. His Eeveelution line is hands down some of my favourite MOCs in the world.

If I had to pick one? Flareon, easily.

Look at that tail! The way it’s been designed and shaped into that fiery pinecone look is just incredible. Linking everything together like that? Genius. I couldn’t even dream of figuring that out myself.

But what really gets me with the Eeveelution builds, especially Flareon, is the eyes.

Eyes can be a huge weak spot on a lot of MOCs. I totally get it though; when a single LEGO 1x1 brick is nearly a centimeter across, it’s hard to finesse the details.

But dst absolutely nails it.

The use of black inner pieces for the sclera, wrapped in red bricks for the eyelids and surrounding fur, and topped with one tiny white LEGO piece for the pupil, honestly, I don’t think you could get a closer representation of those eyes, especially using LEGO.

MOCLobster’s Excalibur – Warframe Done Right

Next up, we’ve got MOCLobster, a builder who seriously tickles my gaming brain.

He’s got MOCs from gaming titles I never expected to see represented in this community — and as a long-time Warframe player (since about 2013!), this one really stood out.

The Excalibur from Warframe MOC might look simple at first glance, which fits the whole vibe of Excalibur as a character. A “simple man with sword” aesthetic and a little horn on the head.

But MOCLobster makes him look absolutely bada**.

The pose, the way the weapons are wielded and sheathed, and the block depth are all so well done. He’s even included the Aklato (twin pistols), the Skana (sword), and what I believe to be the Latron (primary rifle) all really cool touches.

If you’re a Warframe fan like me, you need this sitting on your shelf.

GroundedBuilder’s Insect Builds – Big Scary Bugs, But Cute?

Last but definitely not least is our friend GroundedBuilder.

This guy is all about video game MOCs, even his name is themed after the survival game Grounded, where you’re shrunk down and forced to survive in a backyard filled with giant insects. Imagine A Bug’s Life but way more intense (and with more spiders chasing you).

GroundedBuilder has made a whole lineup of MOCs from the game, and honestly, I think these also appeal to anyone who just loves insects and bugs in general.

One of my favourites? The Black Ox Beetle.

Insects aren’t everyone’s cup of tea (I get it, they’re literally called creepy crawlies). But somehow, GroundedBuilder manages to make them adorable without losing the cool factor of their real-life counterparts.

This beetle MOC uses 146 pieces to pack in a ton of detail, despite its small size. One touch I absolutely love is the use of the Technic red ball piece for the eyes, such a smart way to keep the rounded, realistic look. A 1x1 flat piece wouldn’t have done it justice.

If you’re into animals, insects, or just want something a little different on your shelf, check out his work, seriously impressive stuff.

Why We Need More Video Game MOCs

Video game MOCs aren’t as common as you’d think, a lot of designers tend to focus on the big franchises, the safe bets.

But there are creators out there who love the indie games, the niche titles, and the stuff that doesn’t always get the spotlight. And I am so here for it.

If you’re a designer, I’d love to see more of the weird, the obscure, the underrated games turned into MOCs. Be creative. Build something nobody’s thought of yet.

What Are Your Favourite Video Game MOCs?

Are you also a massive gaming nerd? Do you lose hours (or let’s be real, days) of your life to games like I do? Maybe you, too, waste your soul on League of Legends like me…

(Please send help.)

If you’ve got a favourite video game MOC, let me know, I’m always looking for new builds to obsess over.

Thanks for reading!
