Description
I made this after realising that the anti-vehicle gun used in both 75345 and 9488 was just a sized-down version of the AV-7, so I decided to make this version akin to real-world anti-tank artillery.
I don't believe in charging people for the instructions, as I believe LEGO should be enjoyed by everyone! However, if you'd still like to show your support, you can leave a small tip via my Ko-fi page: here
Lore:
The AV-7S Anti-Tank/Vehicle Gun, developed by renowned weapons manufacturer Taim & Bak, was a direct response to the Republic's need for a lightweight, mobile artillery platform that could counter heavily armoured enemy vehicles and provide long-range precision support. A scaled-down evolution of the AV-7 Antivehicle Cannon, the AV-7S was designed with superior mobility and survivability in mind while still retaining Taim & Bak’s hallmark precision engineering.
Design Features
The AV-7S stands at 8 feet tall when deployed, with a total length of 20 feet, including its 11-foot-long lighter high-velocity plasma cannon. The barrel's advanced plasma containment coils allow for exceptionally fast projectile speeds, resulting in superior kinetic and thermal penetration against armoured targets, even at extended ranges.
This makes it ideal for engagements against heavily armoured AAT tanks, low-flying Separatist gunships, and even the towering legs of enemy walkers when fired at key structural points.
Stabilising Legs and Mobility
True to standard artillery doctrine across the Galactic Republic’s arsenal, the AV-7S features four stabilising legs, which anchor it firmly to the ground during firing sequences. The articulated legs can adjust to uneven terrain and lock into position to absorb recoil, ensuring pinpoint accuracy even during rapid salvos.
When transitioning to a mobile configuration, the legs fold neatly against the chassis, reducing the gun’s footprint to 12 by 8 feet. The cannon is equipped with repulsorlift technology for movement, allowing it to hover above the ground for transport. However, to maintain structural integrity and recoil stability, the repulsorlifts operate at modest speeds comparable to the AV-7, ensuring careful handling during deployment.
Armour and Durability
The AV-7S distinguishes itself from traditional artillery with its thick frontal armour plating. This angular durasteel plating provides essential protection for the crew and internal systems against incoming blasterfire and fragmentation. An ablative energy dispersion coating further enhances survivability by reducing the impact of glancing plasma shots.
Tactical Role
The AV-7S is highly effective in defensive operations and ambush scenarios. Its high-velocity plasma cannon, while lighter than the AV-7’s heavy armament, compensates with exceptional precision and rapid reload speed. It is capable of eliminating both lightly armoured vehicles and heavily reinforced targets with direct hits.
This makes it invaluable for Republic field commanders seeking to create chokepoints, protect key defensive positions, or spearhead counter-offensives against enemy armour formations. AV-7S teams often work in conjunction with advanced targeting sensors and reconnaissance units to maximise firing efficiency.
Operational History and Legacy
Though introduced during the latter stages of the Clone Wars, the AV-7S quickly earned a reputation for its reliability and firepower. Its small size and lighter weight made it a favourite among artillery crews for rapid deployment and reconfiguration on dynamic battlefields.
After the formation of the Galactic Empire, the AV-7S was officially retired in favour of larger self-propelled artillery. However, many units were salvaged by planetary defence forces, resistance groups, and black-market dealers. Its rugged design and straightforward maintenance ensured it remained a staple in countless border conflicts and guerrilla campaigns.
Even today, the Taim & Bak AV-7S "Sentinel" stands as a testament to the Republic’s engineering prowess, a symbol of resilience on battlefields across the galaxy.
