⬛⬜⬛⬜ THE MOC ⬜⬛⬜⬛

Another addition to my ever growing collection is the LEGO Kirov Class Cruiser from the Soviet Navy. It's an old MOC and not built to any particular scale as my very recent US Battleships.

⬛⬜⬛⬜ HISTORY ⬜⬛⬜⬛

The Kirov-class (Project 26) cruisers, a series of six vessels constructed in the late 1930s for the Soviet Navy, played a significant role in the naval development of the Soviet Union. Originally designed with assistance from the Italian Ansaldo company and based on the Italian cruiser Raimondo Montecuccoli, these cruisers marked the Soviets' first endeavor in constructing large ships from the keel up after the Russian Civil War. The initial two ships laid the foundation for the class, while subsequent vessels, boasting increased armor protection, are often referred to as the Maxim Gorky class.

Deployed in pairs to the Black and Baltic Seas during World War II, the first four ships actively engaged Axis troops and facilities following the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941. These cruisers showcased their combat capabilities through bombardments, contributing to the Soviet war effort. However, the last pair, still under construction in the Russian Far East, did not see combat during the war.

Remarkably, all six Kirov-class cruisers survived World War II and continued their service in training and various secondary roles. In the early 1960s, three of the cruisers were dismantled, followed by the remaining trio a decade later. Their legacy reflects their crucial contribution to the Soviet Navy's post-Civil War development and their enduring presence in secondary roles well beyond the war era.
