Description
The building instructions for this one were remade a few months ago, but with all the events going all I shelved it before properly releasing it on Rebrickable. Here's the Prinz Eugen as an unscaled LEGO MOC.
Prinz Eugen was a German heavy cruiser, part of the Admiral Hipper-class, serving in World War II. Named after Prince Eugene of Savoy, she was armed with eight 20.3 cm guns and displaced over 16,000 tons.
In May 1941, she participated in Operation Rheinübung with the battleship Bismarck, engaging British ships in the Battle of the Denmark Strait. Damaged during the operation, she later took part in Operation Cerberus, a dash through the English Channel. Torpedoed in Norwegian waters in 1942, she underwent repairs in Germany.
Afterward, Prinz Eugen trained cadets and supported the German Army on the Eastern Front. Surrendered to the British in 1945, she was transferred to the US Navy as a war prize. Surviving nuclear tests in Bikini Atoll, she sank near Kwajalein Atoll in December 1946. Today, part of her wreckage remains visible near Bucholz Army Airfield, with one propeller on display at the Laboe Naval Memorial in Germany.
