The RZ-1 A-wing interceptor was a starfighter used by the Rebel Alliance, and one of my favorite Star Wars ships. It's a tiny spaceship, but it can be a real menace, as seen in Return of the Jedi when Arvel Crynyd took out a Super Star Destroyer by crashing his A-Wing through its bridge, arguably accidentally. Most MOCs of this ship, however, tend to be a bit oversized, as it's difficult to achieve its characteristic angles with LEGO pieces. In this version I tried to address that, by making use of a new wedge piece to achieve something close to the proper shape while also keeping the model very small.
The model has essentially only two "play features". First there's the cockpit that can fit a pilot minifigure, and includes controls and a built tan seat. Then there's the retractable landing gear, something essential in a ship that's shaped like a wedge and can't really stand well on its own. The structure is very swooshable and quite sturdy, and although there are a few sections here and there that are a bit more delicate, those are mostly in the nose from where you probably won't be holding the model.
The instructions and parts list include parts and steps to build a stand to display the model leaning to one side. Parts count for the build, include stand, is 381 pieces. The ship is 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 5.4 inches (or 13.6 cm) wide. It's very close to exact minifigure scale, although the windscreen piece is a bit oversized and probably the reason why most MOC builders go for a larger scale.
If you choose to acquire these instructions, I hope you enjoy this build and highly appreciate your support!
