The Delta Flyer
Originally designed by Tom Paris and built by the crew of the USS Voyager, it was created to handle missions that the standard shuttlecraft couldn't. Especially in environments requiring superior speed, manoeuvrability, and durability.
First appearing in the episode "Extreme Risk", it's been featured in several key episodes. In "Timeless," it played a crucial role in rescuing Voyager from an icy fate by helping to send a message back in time. In "Drive," it showcased its speed and agility in a thrilling race.
I love Voyager, for its smooth lines, organic curves, and it's smaller scale than some of the other ships. This is refined even further with the Delta Flyer: an incredible ship that packs quite a punch for it's size. So I had to have a go designing it in a size that means anyone can have it on a shelf or a desk. But I also wanted to retain features. You'll even see the subtle hints of Borg green dotted around the enhancements.
Sleek shape: Check!
Working rear hatch: Check!
Retractable landing legs: Check!
Ejectable warp core: You better believe it!
Here are some of the features I've made sure to include
- Cockpit window
- Lateral phaser strip
- Main sensor array
- Impulse intake vents
- Bussard collectors
- Warp nacelles
- Defensive shield grid
- Transporter emitters
- Warp field grille
- Borg system enhancements
- Dorsal entry/escape hatch
- Dorsal communications antenna
- Emergency warp plasma flush vent
- Impulse engine exhaust nozzles
- Aft phaser strip
- Forward and rear landing gear
- Warp reaction chamber
- Aft entry hatch/mission module access
- Port and starboard running lights
Additionally, the side panels come off to reveal the warp coils! The design is also SUPER swooshable!
I really hope you enjoy this, the tolerances here are off the chart and not a single bit of space is wasted. Super proud of this one.
