Supermarine Spitfire

This was one of my earliest attempts at making a LEGO Aircraft MOC. This 179-piece LEGO Supermarine Spitfire. It's not an accurate replication of the plane.



The Supermarine Spitfire, a British single-seat fighter aircraft, served the Royal Air Force and Allied countries throughout World War II and beyond. With numerous variants, it featured innovative design elements such as the elliptical wing and sunken rivets, contributing to its exceptional performance. Designed by R. J. Mitchell and refined by Joseph Smith, the Spitfire became synonymous with British air power during the Battle of Britain, though the Hurricane shouldered more of the defense burden.

Nevertheless, the Spitfire's superior performance led to lower attrition rates and higher victory-to-loss ratios. Post-Battle of Britain, it replaced the Hurricane as the primary aircraft of RAF Fighter Command and saw action across various theaters, operating in roles including interceptor, reconnaissance, and fighter-bomber. Adaptations like the Seafire served in the Fleet Air Arm. Powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin and later Griffon engines, the Spitfire's performance improved throughout its service life. Today, around 70 Spitfires remain airworthy, with many more preserved in aviation museums worldwide.
