⬛⬜⬛⬜ THE MOC ⬜⬛⬜⬛
To date, this is the biggest submarine model I've ever designed. I wanted to continue expanding the mini-series of LEGO submarines at a 1:260 from this year and I wanted to make a Balao-Class submarine as well. Since I built the U-995 last time, I looked for a Balao-Class museum ship which led me to the USS Bowfin.
The design might not be the sleekest of scale models you'd find, I focused on making this model look like a LEGO model first rather than a sleek smooth scale model but I also incorporated cool upside down techniques using the rounded 1x2 part 77808.
I designed this MOC at an approximate scale of 1:260 and is built at the same scale as all the other submarines with display stands from 2025.
⬛⬜⬛⬜ HISTORY ⬜⬛⬜⬛
The USS Bowfin (SS-287) is a Balao-class submarine of the United States Navy, launched on December 7, 1942, exactly one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Nicknamed the “Pearl Harbor Avenger,” Bowfin completed nine war patrols in the Pacific during World War II, sinking a total of 44 enemy vessels, including merchant ships and warships, making her one of the most successful submarines of the war.
After the war, Bowfin served in various training and reserve roles until she was decommissioned in 1971. Today, she is preserved as a museum ship at the Pearl Harbor Historic Sites in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she stands as a tribute to the U.S. Navy’s Silent Service and the 52 American submarines lost during WWII.
