After the incredible response to my advent calendar—especially the mini Enterprise D—I felt inspired to take another crack at the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D in MIDI scale. This isn’t my first attempt at the D in this size; in fact, one of my very first LEGO MOCs was a MIDI-scale Enterprise D. But I’ve learned a lot since then, and it was time to revisit and completely reimagine it.

The Enterprise D is one of the most iconic starships ever designed, and tackling it at this scale comes with unique challenges. It needs to look sleek and accurate, but also be sturdy and affordable. I wanted to take everything I loved about the original model and push it further, making this version not just better but the best I could create.

This new design captures the elegance of the Galaxy-class while packing in all the details and features fans expect:
  • Detachable saucer section, so you can recreate TNG’s most dramatic moments.
  • Secondary hull, tackle the toughest enemies with a split attack.
  • Fully accessible bridge playset, with the entire crew on board: Jean-Luc Picard, William Riker, Deanna Troi, Geordi LaForge, Dr. Beverly Crusher, Lt. Worf, Tasha Yar, Wesley Crusher …and Guinan, because no Enterprise is complete without her wisdom and a drink in hand.
  • Reinforced structure, designed to be strong enough for display and play.

Beyond that, I’ve worked hard to include all the classic features of the Enterprise D that fans know and love:
  • Main deflector array
  • Impulse engines on both the secondary and hulls
  • Phaser arrays
  • Main shuttlebay
  • Bussard collectors
  • First-stage subspace field generators
  • Subspace field propulsive vector arrays
  • Emergency plasma flush vents
  • Aft secondary phaser banks for targeting ships behind
  • Observation dome
  • Captains yacht
  • And, of course, the unmistakable saucer and neck design that defined the Galaxy-class.

This reimagined model measures approximately:
28cm (l) x 19cm (w) x 7cm (h) off stand
26cm (l) x 19cm (w) x 21cm (h) on stand

It represents everything I’ve learned about building in LEGO. It’s not just a display piece—it’s designed to be fun to build and even more fun to interact with.

Revisiting the Enterprise D on this scale has been a labour of love, and I hope you’ll enjoy building it as much as I enjoyed creating it. Whether you’re a die-hard TNG fan or just love great starship designs, this model is for you.

ENGAGE.
