USS Missouri (BB-63), the last battleship commissioned by the United States, was completed in 1944 as part of the Iowa class. Serving primarily in the Pacific Theater during World War II, she played significant roles in the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and witnessed the surrender of Japan, ending the war.
Post-war, Missouri engaged in diplomatic missions and served in the Korean War, earning distinction as the first American battleship to arrive in Korean waters. She was decommissioned in 1955 and later reactivated in 1984, undergoing modernization as part of the 600-ship Navy plan. During this time, she participated in operations such as escorting oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and supporting Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
In 1992, Missouri was decommissioned again and subsequently became a museum ship in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, under the USS Missouri Memorial Association.
